Through the Public Beach and Coastal Waterfront Access Program,
Coastal Management has awarded grants totaling $1,422,478 to the local governments listed
below for access projects during the 2005-06 fiscal year.
There are several types of
access sites:
Local sites, which consist of pedestrian paths and dune crossovers that lead to the
beach or waterfront;
Neighborhood sites, which typically have parking, dune crossovers and litter
receptacles;
Regional and multi-regional sites, which are larger and provide parking, restrooms and
other facilities.
Local governments also may use grants for urban waterfront revitalization projects, the
repair or replacement of aging or storm-damaged access sites, and to purchase land for
access facilities.
