Description of Work

Curator II is responsible for stewardship of three sites of the North
Carolina Coastal Reserve: The Currituck Banks Component of the North
Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve, Kitty Hawk Woods Coastal
Reserve, and Buxton Woods Coastal Reserve. The employee performs
professional work in environmental planning and impact assessment,
designs and implements site management, and restoration projects. Work
is multi-disciplinary and assignments address moderately complex
enviromental issues and projects. The employee is responsible for all
aspects of site management, including developing and implementing site
manamgement plans and policies, monitering sites, assisting with
educational research, monitering activities, assessing visitor use
impacts, making management decisions regarding uses, and coordinating
volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
(1).Considerable knowledge of ecological processes and natural
resource management principles with a familiarity of North Carolina's
natural environments.(2). Considerable knowledge of project planning,
design, and implementation. (3). Ability to formulate and implement
management decisions.(4). Ability to manage multiple projects and
issues within deadlines.(5). Ability to organize and lead volunteers
and community members and work with local officials and partner
agencies.(6). Ability to supervise and train interns and temporary
employees. (7). Ability to work independently.(8). Must have strong
verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Training and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in
Biology,Zoology,Marine Science, or other Natural Science cirriculum
related to the area of assignment and two years of experience in a
Natural Science or related field; or an equivalent combination of
education and experience. Degrees must be from appropriately
accredited institutions.
