N.C. Coastal Resources Commission Will Meet May 19 in Beaufort
RALEIGH – The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will meet at 10 a.m. May 19 at the NOAA/NCNERR Administration Building, 101 Pivers Island Road, in Beaufort.
During this meeting, the Commission will discuss issues related to offshore energy, including an update on the status of leasing activities for offshore energy development on the Atlantic Seaboard, and recommendations from the Legislative Advisory Subcommittee on Offshore Energy Exploration.
The following items are also on the CRC’s agenda:

Inlet Hazard Areas Study Update – Coastal Management staff and the chair of the CRC’s Science Panel will present recommended revisions to the Inlet Hazard Area boundaries for the state’s 12 developed inlets.

2010 Draft Coastal Habitat Plan Recommendations - CHPP coordinator Jimmy Johnson will present updates and revisions to the Coastal Habitat Protection Plan, as recommended by the CHPP steering committee.

Contested Case Hearing – The Commission will hear arguments in a contested case regarding the denial of a CAMA Major Permit for a pier and platform on a property in Morehead City, N.C.

Variance Requests - The Commission will hear two requests for variances from their coastal development rules.

Public Input and Comment (12 p.m.) – Members of the public may comment on coastal issues not already on the commission’s agenda for this meeting.
