State Officials Invite the Public To Celebrate National Estuaries Day/National Public Lands Day in Beaufort

BEAUFORT – The N.C. Division of Coastal Management’s Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve Program, in partnership with the N.C. Maritime Museum, will host a National Estuaries Day and National Public Lands Day celebration on Sept. 25 at the Maritime Museum at 315 Front Street in Beaufort.

The event is free of charge and includes a variety of activities for all ages, including a field trip to the Rachel Carson component of the N.C. National Estuarine Research Reserve, a Big Sweep estuary clean-up, an education tent and continuous showings of the film “Waters of Life,” produced by the N.C. National Estuarine Research Reserve. Registration is required for the field trip and clean-up.  Call (252) 838-0883 to make reservations or visit www.nccoastalreserve.net for more information.

North Carolina’s estuarine system is the third largest in the country, encompassing more the two million acres. National Estuaries Day is an annual celebration of estuaries, the vibrant coastal areas where rivers meet the sea.  It is a great opportunity to learn more about these and how people can help to protect them. National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance public lands.
