Oct. 6 N.C. Coastal Resources Commission Science Panel Meeting Location Changed
RALEIGH – The location for the Oct. 6 public meeting of the N.C. Coastal Resources Commission’s Science Panel on Coastal Hazards has been changed.
The panel will now meet in the seminar room of the UNC Institute of Marine Science, 3431 Arendell St., Morehead City.
The location was originally scheduled for the state Division of Coastal Management’s offices in Morehead City, but the venue was changed to the UNC Institute of Marine Science to accommodate more people.
The panel, which provides scientific advice to the N.C. Coastal Resources Commission, will meet from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The meeting is open to members of the public who wish to listen to the discussion, but there will not be a public comment period.
The group’s agenda includes:
A discussion of the Coastal Area Management Act’s permitting process for terminal groins, and the issues associated with monitoring these structures for adverse impacts.
A discussion of public comments received regarding the N.C. Coastal Resource Commission’s draft sea level rise policy and the science panel’s 2010 report on sea level rise in North Carolina.
Created by the state Coastal Resources Commission in 1997, the 13-member science panel is composed of coastal engineers and geologists.
