BUCKRIDGE COASTAL RESERVE SITE CLOSED TO VISITORS DUE TO FIRE DANGER

COLUMBIA, N.C. – The Emily and Richardson Preyer Buckridge Coastal Reserve site will be closed to the public until further notice due to the threat from a wildfire in the area. The fire, which began a week ago in the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, is rapidly approaching the Reserve’s boundaries.

Because the site is remote and has no public facilities, it does not usually have a large number of visitors during the summer months. The site will be reopened to visitors once the fire danger has passed. For more information, contact Reserve site manager Woody Webster at 252-796-3709.

The Buckridge Coastal Reserve is one of ten components in the N.C. Coastal Reserve, which protects coastal lands and marshes for research, education and compatible traditional uses.
